The King of White Papers, Michael Stelzner, just released a hot new report this morning, after surveying close to 900 marketers online: Social Media Marketing Industry Report: How Marketers Are Using Social Media to Grow Their Businesses.
Take a sneak peek at the Table of Contents:
- Major Findings
- Top 10 Social Media Questions Marketers Want Answered
- The Use Of Social Media Marketing
- Time Commitment For Social Media Marketing
- The Benefits Of Social Media Marketing
- Commonly Used Social Media Tools
- Social Media Tools People Want To Learn More About

The report is available for free as a downloadable PDF here. You’ll be blown away by the facts, stats, charts and survey results.
One of the fascinating facts I discovered was that many marketers start out investing just a small amount of time into social media. But then they begin seeing measurable results and invest more and more time:
The experience factor: There is a direct relationship between how long marketers have been using social media and their weekly time commitment. For people just beginning with social media, the median weekly time commitment was two hours per week. However, for folks who have been doing this for a few months, the median jumped to 10 hours a week. And for people who have been doing this for years, their median is 20+ hours each week

Social media and the use of it for marketing is a business game changer! I just watched an interview with 2 writers that have spoken about how President Obama used social media and extracted those lessons into a book called Barack 2.0 Check out this great interview with them! http://3rdpoblogs.com/colderice/2009/03/23/barack-20-social-media-lessons-for-business-the-tactics-that-won-the-white-house-part-1/

Hi Mari,
Love your blog… you’ve got some great content.
I’ve been looking round the net to find some Facebook Marketing courses to buy recently but haven’t been able to find many?
Is there a reason why there aren’t many available?
I’m looking into your Facebook course now as it looks very comprehensive!
I wondered if Facebook had some terms and conditions or TradeMark that stopped people from producing information products about Facebook Marketing?
Could you shed any light on this?
Drop me an email if you’d prefer not to publish your answer on here.
Many Thanks and keep up the great work.

On page 14 of the report, I found the most important statistic for me: 35% reported that it helped them to “close” a transaction. Sounds good to me! Thanks for the helpful post. @danenow on Twitter

Great article - interesting how the longer you use it, the more you end up using it. I wonder how much of that is down to a positive return and how much is down to the addictive nature of reaching out to people and joining in conversations - though I suppose the latter contributes to the former. I’m definitely seeing results the more effort I put into my social presence.
