Twitter: Fundraising meets microblogging

Posted on December 22nd, 2007.

Today was the first ever Frozen Pea Friday. Through the power of social networking and the highly-addictive (and effective!) micro-blogging platform, Twitter, the community created incredible solidarity to support Susan Reynolds as she underwent surgery for breast cancer today. Such courage. Such support. Blows me away.

The idea behind Frozen Pea Friday is to donate the cost of a couple bags of frozen peas to a fund for cancer research. Read how the campaign got started and quickly flourished here.

Mari's Twitter peepsCheck out this screenshot to the right: the amount of support can be seen by the sea of pea-green avatars from literally thousands and thousands of Twitterers.

I chose this fun one:

I’m fairly new to Twitter myself, and am still getting the hang of this platform. It can be time-consuming. Yet, there’s an art and science to using Twitter effectively. I believe we saw an amazing demonstration of Twitter’s power today with Frozen Pea Friday.

Microblogging is so addictive. I like to Twitter everyday with my friends and talk about just anything. I also have some blogs but i update frequently my Twitter more than my Wordpress blog.
